Great Revival and a few concerns.

Great Revival and a few concerns.

I wanted to take a little time to express my appreciation for a great revival at my church over the last week. For those of you don’t know, our Church had a 1-week revival with Bro. Brett Miles as the preacher. I have known him for a long time now and enjoy the messages that God gives him to preach.

There were two questions that were asked that still ring in my head. The first one was “How many of you are Christians and love God?” Hands went up all around the church. The next question was “How many of you are being obedient Christians and are right where God wants you to be?” Only 5 people were brave enough to raise their hand. Christ says, “If you love me you will obey my commandments”. Why is it that so many Christians jump at the chance to say they are a Christian yet so many hesitate to say they are obedient? I can only assume one thing; most of us are not being obedient (myself included).

The main idea is to learn to hate sin. Keep in mind I did not say hate the sinner, but hate sin. I find this very easy to do by keeping one thing in mind. Sin is what nailed my savior to a cross. Lets get personal. My sin nailed my savior to the Cross. Every time I selfishly take part in sin I must imagine a hammer hitting the nail one more time. How much is enough?

Obviously there is no way to be perfect or sinless (Romans 3:23). The problem is that some Christians need nametags that say, “I am a Christian”. Otherwise, no one would ever know. Are we blending in? Can your friends, pupils, and co-workers tell that you are a Christian on fire for God?

I end by asking, “What do you want people to remember about you.”

  • You were a great systems administrator
  • You were a code demon
  • You were rich
  • You were kind of a big deal
  • You were great with computers
  • You were very successful
  • You were a great businessman

I could not care less about any of these titles. I personally don’t think that God does either. They don’t bring him happiness and they won’t you in the long run. I hope at the end of my life people will say one thing about me “He was a man of God.”

Believing is seeing. God never revealed or will reveal anything without our willingness to meet him half way. If you are waiting for God to miraculously say, “Here I am, I do exist with all scientific and mathematical reason intact” you’re probably going to end up empty handed and hearted. You see, God is waiting for you to say, “There you are”.

    Hey Derek,
I have enjoyed reading your web page. I check Brian’s everyday for something new and got bored and read yours this past week.
Brett Miles came to Farmington Baptist last year and did an AWESOME job on youth night. I mean “HOLY GOOSE BUMPS”! He does a Great Job!
Keep on preaching you never know who will read your web.
